After partition he opted for Pakistan and continued to serve in the Pakistan Civil Service.  Syed Gholam Kabir was married to Sara Begum and together they had five children.

Sara Begum died within a couple of weeks after childbirth in 1935. Mr. Kabir raised his five children, the eldest of whom was only 9 years old.  He retired in 1956. Two years after retirement he moved to 16 Eskaton Gardens after the American renters vacated the house and lived there until his death in 1990. He led a quiet life surrounded by three generations of children and grandchildren.
